Technogenic waste
As a result of the intensive extraction and processing of the metal raw materials during the 1950s and 1960s in the different regions of Bulgaria were disposed of a variety of waste products from the extraction, the primary and secondary processing of the extracted ores (polymetallic, copper- molybdenum, Ferrous, non-metallic raw materials – barite, with the presence of gold-sulphide mineralization, etc.).
Due to the various types of imperfections and the lack of completeness of the processing schemes, not a small part of the basic metals (Cu, Pb, Zn, Au, Ag, Cd etc.), the larger or almost entire range of rare and scattered elements is deposited as fine waste fractions in various (tailings closed or partially reclaimed) tailings ponds.
Our company has launched a project that aims to establish the locality, scaleof distribution, legal status and specificity of the substance composition of some of the most interesting technogenic waste in Bulgaria, mainly deposited in tailings ponds and tips, as well as the possible modern complex, environmentally friendly approaches for their processing in order to extract all useful metals and non-metallic substrates and to search for the possibility of realizing modern waste-free technology.
